Live Long & Prosper

My FTT baby lasted 9 months in his infant carrier. I was so excited when it was time to upgrade and I found this nifty convertible car seat in July '08. A car seat that turns, what an ingenious idea! I LOVE this car seat!!

What I really love is the usability of this seat; it has come in handy, on many a car ride, to be able to turn Austin towards his nurse riding with him in the back seat. But hindsight being 20/20, 14 months later, I wish it I had paid more attention to the car seat RF/FF limits.

Due to a recent blog discussion on car seat safety with a certified tech, it has became apparent that I need to turn Austin forward facing in this seat. This particular seat, Combi Zeus Turn, is approved to be rear facing up to 22lbs and forward facing to 40lbs. Austin, 22 months, has now exceed the weight limit (who woulda thunk?) at 25lbs.

Combi just recently came out with a newer model, Combi 360, that is approved for rear facing use up to 33lbs, but at $300 a pop I cannot afford a new one right now. Even though I must turn him earlier than I would have liked, I am proud that we lasted a lot longer than the 12 month & 20 lb recommendation. The good news is that, in a pinch, we still have the ability to turn him to provide medical care, and that has made this seat worth every penny!

Q: So what did you think of all this hoopla Austin?

A: Fascinating is a word I use for the unexpected. In this case, I should think "interesting" would suffice. --Spock in 'The Squire of Gothos'
